MOTH XXL

After a 24-month respite in a log cabin in Ireland, dedicated to a profound reconnection with her family and her inner self, the artist presents MOTH XXL, a monumental work that captures the serenity of the Emerald Isle and the shock of returning to Málaga. It's a canvas where Irish memories flourish amid the fast-paced atmosphere of her hometown.

In addition to its large size and significance as a connection between two worlds, MOTH XXL is a work that represents the artist's Irish experience and deep introspection through rich symbolism. Each element in the composition is not merely decorative, but an anchor to memories, values, and personal transformations.

The canvas is full of direct references to the artist's time in West Cork.

The Ravens

Birds, omnipresent in the surroundings, fly over the scene, not only evoking the mystical mist and mysterious aura of the Irish landscape, but their robust presence symbolizes the strength and resilience that the Gómez Zambrana family sought and found in the seclusion of the cabin.

The Bars

Those that can be seen are an echo of the majestic stone mansions, centuries-old witnesses to the history and the Irish landscape that captivated the artist.

The Foxes

The appearance of the – daily visitors who shared the organic food left over from dinner – underlines an intimate and harmonious connection with the wild nature of the region.

The Starry Sky

Visible every night in freezing temperatures from Schull's cabin, it becomes a reminder of the vastness, serenity, and beauty of a simple life, without luxuries, unnecessary material distractions, and few comforts.

The work also interweaves poignant accounts of Irish culture and community life.

The Black and White Stripes

Reminiscent of sailors' sweaters, they pay tribute to a profound history of identity and sacrifice: that of Irish fishermen who, unable to swim in the icy Atlantic waters, were identified after death by the unique patterns on their garments, thus allowing each coastal town to recognize its fallen.

Hydraulic Tiles

The composition's frames manage to evoke the warmth and local atmosphere of the Ballydehob tavern, a familiar place where they listened to violins and played Parcheesi, and they manage to integrate the work into the everyday life and charm of its surroundings.

The Seal of the Claddagh

The centerpiece is the (a heart with hands and a crown), an emblematic Irish symbol of love, loyalty, and friendship. This element symbolizes the human and emotional relationships the artist forged during her 24-month stay in Schull.

The Night Butterfly

The figure at the center of the work is, in itself, a powerful symbol. This is the first time the artist has depicted her with her wings spread in this large format, a silhouette she had jealously reserved for artistic creation of fullness and creative revelation, as her previous "Moths" always featured closed wings. Her eyes, with their penetrating gaze, embody the presence of a loved one in heaven: Consuelito, the artist's beloved mother-in-law. This year of intense work and effort is dedicated to her memory, an impetus to "embroider" projects and achieve new goals.

The Rectangles with Black Stripes

Even the ones that at first glance appear to be abstract patterns reveal their humble, artisanal origins: they are doormats handmade by a friend's father from fishing lines, a subtle nod to ingenuity and a connection to local maritime life.

Pink Flowers (Fuchsia or Queen's Earrings)

These flowers, found throughout West Cork, accompanied the artist every day on her way to work along the narrow roads. Their dancing shape made her feel as if she were with someone, providing a sense of companionship.

MOTH XXL represents a profound life experience, combining wild nature, rich Irish culture, and a moving personal story of resilience, memory, and transformation.
